Acoustic emission spectra and statistics of dislocation movements in Fe<sub>40</sub>Mn<sub>40</sub>Co<sub>10</sub>Cr<sub>10</sub> high entropy alloys

The defining feature of high-entropy alloys (HEAs) is their unprecedented degree compositional inhomogeneity which influences dislocation movements. We demonstrate differences between a HEA (Fe 40 Mn Co 10 Cr ) and conventional solution alloy (316L stainless steel) using acoustic emission (AE) spectroscopy. AE measurements under tension show the coexistence two avalanche processes in Fe HEA, whereby one process relates to movement dislocations other detwinning/twinning processes. These exhibit branches E ∼ A 2 correlation. movements systematically longer durations compared with equivalent 316L steel bias toward faster waiting times for subsequent aftershock rate, as identified by Omori law, same materials.
